What’s registered automatically
1
Set your caller ID identity
Go to Settings → Caller ID identity and enter your firm’s display name and business address. The display name is capped at 15 characters, since that’s what carriers show before cutting a caller ID name off.
2
Buy or activate a number
Every number you buy has this identity submitted for CNAM registration (the name a phone displays for an incoming call) under your firm’s name, whether the number is billed through Compensable or through a carrier account you’ve connected yourself. How quickly the name appears varies by carrier.
- Verified caller ID: registered to your firm with full attestation. This is what keeps your calls from displaying as “Spam Likely.”
- Verifying: registration is in progress. No action needed.
- Action needed: something needs your attention before the registration can complete. Open the number for details.
- Not verified: registration hasn’t run for this number yet, typically because it was imported rather than bought. Sync from your provider or re-import it to start the process.
Local SMS registration (10DLC)
Carriers require local, 10-digit numbers that send SMS to be registered under 10DLC before they’ll deliver traffic reliably: unregistered SMS from a local number gets filtered or blocked outright. Registration has two parts: a “brand” that identifies your firm, and a “campaign” that describes what the number is used for, including sample messages, how contacts opt in, and how STOP and HELP requests are handled.10DLC registration is available on request through support. It needs a short questionnaire from your firm: legal business details, the messages you plan to send, and your opt-in and opt-out handling.
Toll-free verification
Toll-free numbers (800, 888, 877, and similar prefixes) go through a separate carrier-run verification instead of 10DLC. The idea is the same: carriers want to confirm the business behind the number and how it plans to use texting before extending full deliverability.Toll-free verification is available on request through support, using the same business details as 10DLC registration.
What we need from your firm
Registration draws from two things: your firm’s caller ID identity (display name and address, above) and a business profile with your legal name and website. If you’re registering for SMS, add sample messages, your consent basis for the campaign, and how contacts can stop or get help.If a number shows “Action needed”
Open the number from the Channels page for details on what’s outstanding, then contact support to resolve it. A number in this state keeps working for calls it’s already routed to; registration issues affect caller ID trust and SMS deliverability, not whether the number rings.Next steps
